Jung Dae-young, a middle blocker who played for GS Caltex last season, will leave the court where he grew attached and start a new life.
Jung Dae-young announced his intention to retire to the club after the 2023-2024 season, and decided to end his long journey as a glamorous volleyball player.
Women's volleyball legend Jung Dae-young graduated from the Yangbaek Girls' Award in 1999 and took her first step on the adult volleyball stage at Hyundai Engineering & Construction, which was then a business team. After moving to GS Caltex in 2007, Jung Dae-young played an active role as the team's flagship player and led the team to two wins in the 2007-2008 and 2013-2014 seasons.
Jung Dae-young, who moved to the Korea Expressway Corporation in 2014, helped him win two titles in the 2017-2018 season and the 2022-2023 season with his consistent performance, although not spectacular. Jung Dae-young, who returned to GS Caltex before the 2023-2024 season, showed his responsibility as the eldest sister by serving as a role model for young players both on and off the court.
Jung Dae-young said, "I have thought about retirement many times in my career, but I had a lot of worries when the time to retire was approaching. The biggest reason was that I could not play as a player again in front of my beloved fans. I would be happy if the fans would give me a lot of encouragement and support in my new life in the future, and I hope you always don't forget about the player named Jung Dae-young."
Meanwhile, GS Caltex will support Jung Dae-young's new start through a grand retirement ceremony that will be memorable for the player himself and his fans during the 2024-2025 season.
